Maintenance of your Refrigerator
Stainless Steel Refrigerators:
Proper maintenance depends on the type of finish unit. Stainless Steel Refrigerators that do not leave fingerprint marks have a Polyester clear coat. Refrigerators or any units with a polyester clear coat should not be cleaned with stainless steel polishes since they will damage the protective clear coat on the item.
Important Cleaning Instructions:
- Thoroughly dry any water applied to stainless steel, it will rust.
- Never use chlorine or cleansers containing chlorine.
- Do not use steel wool or steel brushes, since these can damage the surface or leave little particles that will rust and stain the stainless steel surface.
If your appliance has brown spots, use Barkeeper’s Friend, the powder version seems to be the best of the set. You can purchase it online at: www.barkeepersfriend.com.
Stainless steel should be wiped down monthly with mineral oil to prevent rust from appearing. This is even more important in high environments where salt is present in the environment like for instance never the beaches or coast lines. Refrigerators placed in non-air conditioned environments use more energy to keep contents cold.
Never put a Refrigerator in direct sunlight.
Never put a Refrigerator outdoors.
Conserve energy use by keeping the coils clean. Always position a refrigerator in an upright position even during transit to prevent damage to mechanical systems. After transit, please keep appliance in an upright position for 24 hours before plugging it in.
Freezers need to be cleaned with water only and dried thoroughly. Never put a freezer outdoors. Lubricate pins on hinges once a week.
